Features and Functions of Guard Car Handset Unit

  1. Shaft direction, requested speed and direction bar (Red). Also displays actual speed travelled (Green).
  2. Workings direction requested speed and direction bar (Red). Also displays actual speed travelled (Green).
  3. Speed request button. Shaft direction.
  4. Speed request button. Workings direction.
  5. Power on LED. Also displays handset battery condition, (Green – battery full, Red – battery flat)
  6. Comms established LED. (Green – comms healthy, Red – comms failure)

Features:

  • Proximity warning sounds in both locomotives
  • Drivers need to accept and slowdown to the proximity speed
    • Driver accepts responsibility and can now stop under control if need be
    • Drivers (human error) can still cause a collision at a speed of less than 5 km/h, thus maximum resultant of 10 km/h impact
  • If both Drivers do not accept and/or slowdown to the proximity speed, both the Locomotives will then brake electrically (dynamic and emergency/park brake)
  • If only one driver does not accept and/or slowdown to the proximity speed, the Locomotive will then brake electrically (dynamic and emergency/park brake). The other driver who did accept must now stop under control to prevent a collision.
