Battery Management Features


  • The Battery Monitor is mounted on the Loco Battery
  • The device is configurable and provides for alarms and trips (low and high)
  • All events are logged (time and date stamped)
  • Graphical reports are provided for charge and discharge regimes (on time/date line)
  • Cell temperatures are monitored and recorded

Pre-Shift Safety Check


The pre-shift safety check is a routine where-by the following items are tested and requires confirmation by the Driver

  1. White lights and red lights – loco and caboose
  2. Sirens – both the loco and caboose as well as the 1000CT internal buzzer
  3. Door switches
  4. Control handle travel in both directions – ensuring maximum electrical braking
  5. Emergency stop and hydraulic brake pressure dump valve
  6. Mechanical brakes static holding ability – automatic test – any motion dtected during this phase will fail the test and render the loco stationary
  7. Battery capacity is determined

Items that may be added are: Fire extinguisher & Re-railing equipment etc

True Speed


Acceleration / deceleration measurement of a mine locomotive

  • Speed and direction is continuously measured by the 5th wheel
  • The electronics on the 5th wheel incorporate an accelerometer which is used in the case of “wheel-lock” / skidding. The output from the accelerometer is logged and is used to determine distance travelled in such an event
  • Every time the emergency stop is applied or during a planned “Dynamic brake test” the deceleration rate is determined and the statistics recorded

Remote Control: Safe remote opperation from the Handheld Module

This functionality provides the user with the means and control to carry out previously “dangerous” operations in a much safer way

  • Coupling and de-coupling
  • Loading and tipping
  • Changing the loco battery
  • Switches, ventilation doors and poor track conditions
  • Development end operations

Again the configuration settings allow you to set your rule for the above operations

Directional speed zoning

  • Speed and direction are continuously monitored and each loco is continuously transmitting its own speed and direction
  • These transmissions are received by the beacons deployed at strategic places / hazards i.e. ventilation doors, station areas, workshops, tips etc
  • These beacons are configured according to the risk in that area and will now dictate the maximum allowed directional speed
  • The type of hazard is displayed to the driver as well as the directional speed limit

Theory of Operation

  • 1000CT requires a proximity transponder at each end of the train
  • Proximity transponders "throw" an RF zone around the loco and caboose of the train
  • Any train that senses another train's zone will cause a proximity warning
  • The zone broadcast by each train includes it's unique ID and the speed and direction in which it is travelling

Proximity warning (PDS) – VtV and VtP with ranging functionality

  • The proximity detection / collision avoidance system is universal for both track-bound and track-less applications
  • Operation
  • Long distance (> 40 meters) warning is provided by means of RF detection and provide the driver with early warning and the system can impose a reduced speed. In the track-bound environment the system position the other vehicle geographically ( in front or behind)
  • When the vehicles are with-in 40m or less the “ranging” functionality will do the slow-down and stopping according to your zone set-up
  • The technology used for ranging is time-of-flight and is not dependant on signal strength
  • In the rail-bound environment we recommend the use of the Men-at-work beacon. This provides a positive action and does not become a nuisance alarm as with general proximity warnings

FRONT DRIVEN ABILITY – Normal tramming

In this instance the Driver is always facing the direction of travel. The equipment provided and method of operation is exactly the same in both the Loco and Caboose. The configuration settings allow you to set “blind driving” rules
